The Nashville Predators' recent resurgence has left everyone, including former defenseman Hal Gill, scratching their heads. With a 18-10-2 record in their last 30 games, the Predators are just three points shy of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. But here's where it gets controversial... should they buy or sell at the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline?
Two months ago, the Predators were struggling, and the idea of them making the playoffs seemed like a long shot. However, their recent form has them back in the race, and with Barry Trotz announcing his retirement as general manager, the team is now faced with some tough decisions.
"I'm not sure what Nashville will do," Gill said during his appearance on the 'NHL @TheRink' podcast. "It's a difficult decision for Trotz because you have to consider the team's projection and the organization's future."
Gill, now a broadcaster, highlighted the Predators' ability to turn things around quickly. Despite looking like the worst team in the league during the second period of their last home game against the St. Louis Blues, they managed to come back and win 6-5. "They play with speed and intensity," Gill explained. "Stamkos has found his form, and Roman Josi is playing at his best. It's hard to predict what this team is capable of."
The Predators' 17 comeback wins, the most in the West and second in the NHL, are a testament to their fighting spirit. This could be a deciding factor for Trotz as he considers his final moves as GM.
"It's been a challenging season," Gill added. "The team has battled hard, and I want to see what they can achieve."
In addition to the Predators' situation, this week's podcast episode covers other hot topics, such as the Tampa Bay Lightning's impressive 18-1-1 record in their last 20 games, the impact of Rick Bowness as the new coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the struggling New Jersey Devils, and a preview of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, with a focus on Czechia and Switzerland's medal prospects.
